After pre-ordering the game right after Comic Con last summer, I’m happy to say I’ve finally had a few days to sit down with this title. I avoided the beta testing since I don’t really like playing a character only to have them deleted in a few weeks. It’s hard for me to get through games as it is, so if I have to replay things that I may not have enjoy the first time it’s just a lot worse.
Level 1 through 10 probably took me about 2 days of decent gaming. Keep in mind I’m a ‘slow’ MMO player, meaning I like looking around/exploring a bit. Found a few neat things by doing that too. I also didn’t skip a lot of quests or movie sequences. I don’t doubt that I skipped a couple quests, but it seemed like I did the majority of them on Tython. So, guesstimating the average player is like me to a certain degree it would take about a little less than two days.
When playing a game you want to feel rewarded. You have no problem feeling that in SWTOR. There was so much going on just in my own private story within the first ten levels that I felt like I had already played a full game. Okay, so that may be a bit of a push, but it at least felt like the length of a DLC.
They really made this game successfully for two types of people; the ones who wouldn’t normally touch an MMO, and those who always seem to be sucked into one universe or another.
The huge amount of lore and story that goes into a game like this would normally intimidate the shit out of me. World of Warcraft didn’t handle the lore well enough for me, very rarely I found myself actually reading the quest, and while I would pick a few things out it always felt like I had to go out of my way to learn more. In SWTOR, not only is most of the quest lines voiced out, but you also have to interact with everything in the quest. The things you do and say can end up affecting your storyline as you progress further on. For intense, during my quest leading up to my lightsabor I got the option to kill a rather annoying character that had been causing me a lot of grief since starting the game. I didn’t kill him and that ended up allowing me to suggest to the Jedi Council that he become a Jedi. A few levels later and I receive a message from him thanking me for what I’ve done.
As of now, my biggest goal in this game is to get a purple lightsabor. Which apparently takes a while.
